Gemstones were used in the breastplate of the High Priest of Israel.
We find the story of the breastplate in the book of Exodus as the
Breastplate of Aaron.
It is, or becomes, a sacred object to be worn by the High Priest of the Israelites. The
breastplate becomes associated with how the Priests communicate with Elohim. It contained
twelve gemstones and had straps on each corner so that it hang over the shoulders of the Priests,
over their sacred garments. These twelve gemstones represented the twelve tribes of Israel.
Exodus 28:16-20
"The first row shall be Carnelian, Chrysolite and Beryl; the second row shall be Turquoise,
Lapis Lazuli and Emerald; the third row shall be Jacinth, Agate and Amethyst; the fourth row
shall be Topaz, Onyx and Jasper."
The stones were mounted in gold.
Exodus 28:16-20
"There are to be twelve stones, one for each of the names of the sons of Israel, each engraved
like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes."
Gemstones were precious to the Hebrews, they obtained them from India and Egypt and the Middle East.
When the Hebrews made their Exodus out of Egypt, they the Israelites, the Bible states, took gemstones
with them. After becoming established in the Land of Israel, they obtained gemstones from the various
merchant caravans travelling from Babylonia, Persia, Saba and Raamah.
We suggest that you should wear the
gemstone attributed to your birth month. However, because
