Aviation fun for pilots and aviation hobbyists

Aviation involves the use of such crafts as fixed-wing aircrafts and rotary-wing vehicles, wing-less lifting bodies, lighter-than-air crafts such as hot air balloons and airships. Aviation also includes all of those activities dealing with mechanical flight and the industry surrounding the proper operation of these aircrafts. And, there is a new type of wing, the morphable wing aircraft. This newly developed wing architecture is expected to be able to greatly simplify the manufacturing process and reduce fuel consumption by improving the aerodynamics with such wings.

The development and operation of heavier-than-air aircraft shapes the framework of aviation. That includes military aviation, the development and use of aircraft by the military, and civil aviation, aircrafts used for all nonmilitary purposes. Ssuch as used by airlines to provide air transportation or for carrying cargo by commercial aircraft.

A little history of Aviation

Aviation and aeronautical engineering can be traced back many centuries. It could be said that aviation began in the 5th century with the invention of kites in China.

Leonardo da Vinci, the famous artist, created drafts for an aircraft in his paintings in the 15th century. Tito Livio Burattini developed a model aircraft featuring four pairs of glider wings in 1647. Today, the dream of flight has become a practical reality where we can board jets and travel around the planet at high speeds.

Sir George Cayley of England, developed some of the basic scientific principles of heavier-than-air flight as early as the 19th century. Otto Lilienthal of Germany became the first person to make and fly successful gliders. This wa in the 1890s. Inspired by Lilienthal, Wilbur and Orville Wright, two American brothers, developed a fully practical double-winged glider that could be controlled in every direction. With their success by 1902, they went on to fit a small engine and two propellers to another biplane. On December 17, 1903, the Wright brothers made the first successful human-carrying, engine-powered heavier-than-air flight in the world. This took place at a site near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

However, the first objects to fly that carried people were balloons. These were pioneered in France by the Montgolfier brothers in 1783.

Meteorology is a big factor in aviation

Meteorology is the branch of sciences which studies atmospheric conditions. Its major focus is on weather forecasting. Although there has bensignificant progress made in meteorology, the study of meteorology dates back millennia, it was not until the 18th century that we begin to see the greatest progress in the knowledge of meteorology.

Weather reports

The weather report predominantly used by aircraft pilots, and by meteorologists is a METAR. The METAR information is used to assist in weather forecasting. It is a codified observation message indicating an airfield weather conditions observed at a given time. METAR stands for 'METeorological Aerodrome Report'.

Jobs in aviation

Aviation offers many lucrative job opportunities. Jobs such as: Aircraft Electrical Installer or Technician, Aircraft Manufacturing Engineer, Airline Pilot, Airport Operations Manager, Air Traffic Controller, Aviation Maintenance Technician and Quality Control Personnel.

Jeppesen Aviation History: Aviation History opens with the first flights of balloons in 1783 and continues the story of flight to the present. The book covers general aviation, commercial aviation, military aviation, and aerospace, in the informative text, as well as in summaries of events, timelines, personal profiles, flight lines (quotations), historical notes, graphics, photographs, and bibliographies.

Hovercrafting in Georgia Generally, all law which applies to small boats will apply to the operation of hovercrafts. This include such issues as registration, personal flotation devices and fire extinguishers. It should also be noted that some states also now require that operator identification be carried on board. Remember, safty rules were developed to save lives.
