Aviation: TailWind; Flying for Fun and Profit

Welcome to the Aviation portion of my blog titled "TailWind"

It is for Pilots, aviation hobbyist, or anyone interested in rotary-wing aircrafts, fixed-wing airplanes, rockets and whatever aspect of aviation that exist. Thus, if you are interested in aviation, be-it airplanes or helicopters and regardless of your flight experience - then this site is for you.

Flying a plane is a unique pleasure that needs to be experienced to be believed. We hope to share with you, our love of aviation - the memories and joy of flying.

However, being able to fly yourself and or own your own airplane can save you time and money and it can make you money. There are Great Careers In General Aviation. Some of the most noted careers in aviation are: "Certified Flight Instructors", "Air Taxi or Charter Pilot", "Corporate Pilots", "Aerial Photography Pilot", and many others.

Why this page is named "TailWind"

A tailwind is when the wind blows in the same direction of travel of an object (i.e. aircraft in this case), in contrast - a headwind blows against the direction of travel. A tailwind increases the speed of the aircraft and reduces the time (and fuel) required to reach its destination.

From My Experiences:

Having flown the Hughes/McDac and Bell helicopters as a Vietnam helicopter pilot (UH-1), this is one of the best subject that I like to talk about. However, I started flying in high school in the Cessna 150. I was also a member of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP).

I included Hovercrafts and Boats for the feel they give that is much like flying. Often times one can feel the air holding up a small aircraft, much like the feel of how the boat ride on the water.

Fixed wing Enthusiasts: For all of us who enjoy flying! I started flying in high school with the Civil Air Patrol, in Cessna 150s. "The Cessna 150 is a two-seat tricycle gear general aviation airplane that was designed for flight training, touring and personal use."

Helicopter Enthusiasts: Helicopters because of their complexity they require very well trained and experienced pilots. However, they are really quite simple to fly. I flew for the US Army.

Boat and Hovercraft Enthusiasts

Hovercrafts are an Un-matched recreational fun for the whole family!

81 Lessons From The Sky

General Aviation

Do you want to be the pilot who comes home after every flight?

Learn from the experiences of other pilots so you don't become another air incident statistic.

81 Lessons From The Sky contains 81 true stories from actual pilots, including what they learnt from their accidents and near misses. 81 stories from around the globe, from the General Aviation community on their own near misses and their learnings.

All 81 stories have been selected and republished with permission from NASA, CASA and CHIRP, and include first hand pilot reports about aviation accidents from the USA, Australia and the United Kingdom.

81 lessons learnt from taxiway incidents, refuelling errors, airspace infringements, cloud base confusion, reliance on GPS systems, storm fronts, military airspace incursions, and many, many more.

Each story is short and easy to read, written in the voice of the pilot who lived to report back. You'll recognise the names of the aircraft, and you may have even landed at some of the airfields mentioned in these pages. Aircraft like the Conquest, the Pawnee, the Cessna 150, the 172, a Piper 6XT, even a Bird Dog, and others.
